Walking

The nearest village to Stonton Wyville is Glooston. It is approx. 1 mile by footpath across fields. If you take a look in the corner of the paddock there is a gate, go through this gate (and the next if staying in ‘Posie’), across the Willows and ‘LOB’ bridge (called LOB as it’s made from left over bits!) and through the hand gate marked with a sign ‘West View Farm Residents only’. You are now on the footpath. Turn right and the path will take you straight to Glooston. There is a pub here called the Old Barn Inn, which is open all day (summer months) and from 12pm (winter months) and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner!

If you turn left once on the footpath and right very shortly after (by the barns) this will take you up to the old roman road where there are a whole host of footpaths in every direction!

If you walk from the car park, down the farm drive to the road where you came in, turn left towards the main road and straight over the main road, you are now on the track to Thorpe Langton. The big hills to the left are called the ‘Caudles’ and there is a footpath straight up to a trig point at the top. From there you can head down towards Welham, Thorpe Langton or back to Glooston.

If you walk from the car park, down the farm drive to the road where you came in ad turn right, over small bridge, you will find yourself in the middle of Stonton Wyville! On the left hand side, just after the post box is a gate. If you go through here and follow the footpath it will take you up to Tur Langton (approx 1.5 miles) – There are also a ‘permissive access’ detour from this path. There is a pub in Tur Langton called The Crown (see pubs page). If you head straight past the Crown and down to the bottom of the village, you will find some rural retail outlets and a coffee shop. See www.themanorturlangton.co.uk for more info.

These are just a very small selection of the nearest walks – basically there is walking in every direction for as long or as short as you choose!

We have left a map for you to use and we are happy to take this with you on your walks – but not to take home please!

Got a question?
